What led a shy Polish priest to overthrow thousands of years of scientific and religious belief in the middle ages?  Are the arts and science similar in terms of creativity?  And can you represent mathematical equations through movement?

These are some of the questions at the heart of Transit Theatre's latest production to be performed in the spectacular 180 degree surrounds of the Melbourne Planetarium's SkyDome Theatre in September 2009.

Featuring a live performance upon a unique raised stage, set against a moving background of stars and animation, and rich surround sound, this is a dreamlike trip inside the mind of the man who, in 1543, first proclaimed that the Sun and not the Earth was the centre of the Universe.

Sam Davison as Nicolaus in 'Copernicus'

'Copernicus' has been timed to coincide with the 2009 International Year of Astronomy, and is being performed as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, following a lengthy development period including early performances in the UK and Switzerland in 2006.

This is a mesmerising and magical piece of theatre not to be missed.
